Armando de Leon

A graveside inurnment with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley for Carson Valley resident Armando de Leon, 79, who died Oct. 22, 2009.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 2, 1930, he joined the U.S. Marines and served in Korea. He earned a Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, and other citations. He served 10 years in the Marines and then joined the Navy where he served his country in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy after serving an additional 9.5 years.

After the military Mr. de Leon became a substance abuse counselor for 22 years in Long Beach and Escondido, Calif.

Mr. DeLeon was preceded in death by brother Raul.

He is survived by wife Janet, whom he married in 1975; four stepchildren, Janna, Heidi, Dixie and Karr; sister Maria, and many nieces and nephews in Texas. Arrangements entrusted to Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
