Vandals hit vehicle windows

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating reports of shot-out vehicle windows in Indian Hills.

Victims reported Feb. 26 broken windows on Vista Grande, Loyola Street, Basalt and Tourmaline.

Secret Witness is offering a $250 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of those responsible.

A resident of the 2800 block of Vicky Lane is missing her smile.

The woman told deputies someone stole a metal "SMILE" sign from her back yard. She noticed the sign was missing on Feb. 27.

She said the sign was 30 inches high and made of metal.

A Johnson Lane woman who posted a notice on craigslist to board horses smelled scam when she was contacted by someone who sent her a cashier's check for $4,870, asking her to cash the check, deduct her expenses, and send the rest by Western Union.

The woman turned the information over to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The check lacked any security features and the telephone number was phony.

A 26-year-old man was jailed in Washoe County accused of stealing a vehicle from a Gardnerville Ranchos man he befriended when both were in custody.

The 33-year-old victim told authorities after the two were released from Washoe County Jail, they returned to the Gardnerville Ranchos residence.

They returned to Reno to pick up a third man and came back to the victim's house.

He claimed the three were drinking and George Hesse slipped something in his drink causing him to pass out.

When he awoke, he ordered the two out of his house, but not before noticing a $2,500 laptop computer and a cell phone were missing.

He couldn't find his car keys and discovered the 2006 Jeep Liberty had been stolen.

Police recovered the missing car in Reno and arrested Hesse.
