Firefighters battling 200-acre Boulder fire

Firefighters are focusing on the Boulder fire burning south of Jacks Wright Pass south of Wellington.

More than 200 firefighters, including four hand crews, eight engines, two bulldozers are being supported by seven air tankers and four helicopters as of noon today.

The fire is burning in rough terrain, forcing most of the fight on hand crews and aircraft due to poor road access.

Firefighters are working to keep the fire inside the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and prevent it from spreading down canyon toward structures west of State Route 338, about a mile from where the fire is burning.

As of noon, more accurate mapping has revised the size of the Pine Nuts fire to 88 acres. The fire, which began 4:20 p.m. Friday, is burning nine miles east of Johnson Lane on Mineral Peak just inside eastern Douglas County.

The fire is burning in pinon pine and juniper at about 6,480 feet. Ninety firefighters working in four hand crews and four engines are being aided by a helicopter in cutting a line around the fire.

Fire Information Officer Mark Struble said there were few issues with the fire at this time, with no evacuations or road closures anticipated.
