What's going on at the senior center

Upcoming events at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. Information, 783-6455.


The knitting and crocheting group meets 9 a.m. to noon Mondays in the ceramics room. The group meets at the Aspen Mobile Home Park on the second Monday of the month. Information, Linda Sawtel, 783-8982.


Questions answered about veteran's benefits, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8 at the senior center.


Make a patriotic bug magnet at the first meeting of the Crafters Corner, 1:30 p.m. July 9 at the senior center. Future projects include creating butterflies, wind chimes and dream catcher.


Summer barbecues

The senior center hosts summer barbecues in Lampe Park featuring music, games, bingo and food. The senior center will be closed 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on barbecue days.

The Red, White & Blue barbecue is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 16, with a bean bag toss, egg relay race, beach ball volleyball and music by Don & Nadine.

The luau barbecue, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Lampe Park, features entertainment by hula dancers.


Make an appointment at the senior center to talk to a representative from Nevada Legal Services on July 22.


Shopping trip to the new Legends Mall in Sparks departs the senior center at 9 a.m. July 23. Cost of $10 covers transportation. Bring or purchase your own lunch.


Green Thumb Garden Club visits a residence to view water features on July 27. Call the senior center for directions. Meet at the senior center at 9:30 a.m., meeting at 10 a.m.


Day at the movies

The senior center hosts a trip to see "Alexander's Rag Time Band" at the Galaxy Theater in Carson City. The 1938 movie stars Tyrone Power and Alice Faye. Bus departs senior center at 8:30 a.m. July 27for 10 a.m. show. Free transportation and bag lunch for seniors. Sign up at 783-6455.


Create up to eight greeting cards in card making class taught by Elizabeth Joseph, 8:30-11 a.m. July 22 and July 29, in the ceramics room. Cost for the two-day class is $24, which includes supplies.


The community health nurse gives free blood pressure checks every other Wednesday at the senior center.

Silver yoga is 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays under the trees at the senior center. Class may be done sitting in a chair. Cost, $2 per class. Information, Chris, 790-6373.


Reno Aces game Aug. 2

Watch the Aces play the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Aug. 2 at the Reno Ballpark. Game begins at 5 p.m. Cost of $30 includes an infield reserved ticket and transportation. Food and drinks available for purchase at the park. Shuttle departs senior center at 3 p.m.
