R-C travel blogger back in Nevada

"If you wish to inflict a heartless and malignant punishment upon a young person, pledge him to keep a journal a year."

Mark Twain

'Innocents Abroad'

Record-Courier blogger and Carson Valley native Marie Bradshaw has returned from abroad, where she lived with a French family for four months and then toured England and Europe.

Anyone who has followed Marie's progress on recordcourier.com knows she's back in Nevada. She kept us up-to-date on her progress through the blog.

In France as part of the study abroad program, the University of Nevada, Reno, art major earned several credits toward her French minor.

"Meeting all the new people, complete strangers, and getting to know them was the best part," she said.

Keeping up the blog required discipline, but it could have been a valuable backup for her.

"It became kind of a fun thing for me," she said. "You have to develop a discipline to write things down as you go. But I almost lost my travel journal, so it was there."

There aren't a lot of comments on the blog, but her friends and family followed it.

"There was one person who left comments," she said. "But I got a lot of feedback from my friends and family, who said they loved it."

Now that she's back in the state, she's moving back to Reno and looking for work.

"I'd love to break into travel writing," she said. "Something to do with photography and traveling."

Marie is the daughter of Gardnerville residents Paul and Suzanne Bradshaw.
