Monita Low Boesewetter

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Feb. 14, 2009, at the Creative Center in New York City, for former Topaz Ranch Estates resident and author Monita Low Boesewetter, 85, who died Dec. 23, 2008, in Gardnerville.

Born April 6, 1923, in Panama City, Panama, Mrs. Boesewetter was 15 years old in 1938 when her father was transferred to Honolulu, Hawaii, from Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu in 1940. She left Hawaii not long after she graduated, attended college and married.

A discussion at her 60th reunion prompted her to write "Gone with the Dawn," a compilation of memoirs of 48 graduates of her high school in the classes of 1935 to 1953.

She was a member of the Carson Valley Writer's Group. Family members said her life was filled with a wealth of travel, art and sculpture, writing, love, and the amazing friends she made around the world.

She is survived by domestic partner Frank Ambler; children Bill Boesewetter and MaryLee Boesewetter; granddaughter Cindy Fisher; grandson Scott (Julie) Fisher; and great-grandchildren Jacob and Joshua Fisher.
