Men rescued after walking snowy Mono County road

Two Nevada men walked more than 20 miles along a closed snowy Mono County highway before they were found by rescuers.

The men were rescued after they tried to use closed Highway 120 between Lee Vining and Benton on their way from Gardnerville to Las Vegas.

According to the Mono County Search and Rescue, Marco Casco, 49, and Pedro Gonzalez, 55, both of Las Vegas, tried were heading home after running an errand in Gardnerville.

When they failed to return home on Jan. 15, California Highway Patrol, Mono County Sheriff's deputies and the search and rescue team went out to look for them.

According to officials, the pair's vehicle was located by highway patrol officer about 20 miles east of the intersection with Highway 395 near Sagehen Summit.

A sheriffs deputy drove along the snowy Highway following their tracks and located the subjects not far from the intersection with Benton Crossing Road at 2 a.m. Both Casco and Gonzalez were cold but not injured.
