Senior Health Fair returns to CVI on Jan. 28

Staff Reports

About 300 people wandered around the Douglas County Senior Center's senior health fair last year and wandered out with goodie bags filled with samples and information from the 40 businesses that attended.

The 10th annual senior health fair is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Carson Valley Inn's Shannon Ballroom.

The fair provides information to seniors about health care providers and services in the community and the opportunity to address individual concerns with health care professionals.

There is booth space still available for the health fair. Businesses and services represented at the health fair have included medical professionals, residential care, Medicare counseling, service organizations, insurance and investment firms, recreation and nutrition.

For information about reserving a booth, contact recreation specialist Amanda Reid at the senior center, 783-6455.

Health care providers will be hand with information about hearing aids, Alzheimer's care and diabetes. The health nurse will give blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event features a fashion show of clothing from Especially for You and Sidestreet Boutique and children's fashions from Baby Willow's at 1 p.m.

There will be a raffle of prizes throughout the day, with prizes provided by Senior Health Fair participants.

Free DART shuttle bus is offered during the health fair, providing service between the senior center and Carson Valley Inn. Information at the senior center, 783-6455.
