Genoans recommended Karen Holmes to replace term-limited board member Bill Donohoe on Tuesday. Holmes' appointment will go to the Lake Tahoe county commissioners meeting on Jan. 15 and should she be approved, she'll take her seat on the town board for its Jan. 20 budget workshop.

Minden meets at 6 p.m. tonight in the CVIC Hall. Town board members have three design reviews on the agenda, including a 21-unit low to moderate-income housing project on Mahogany across from the East Fork Swimming Pool, an office building on the site of the former Capital Ford Dealership next to the phone company building and a review for plans to expand the Douglas County Jail.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting an abandoned vehicle at Spooner Summit at about 6 a.m. Commuters should keep an eye out for troopers by the side of the road there.

Whatever moisture was in the forecast for Thursday has turned to wind. Look for a high temperature in the mid-50s today with a light breeze. Thursday's forecast is for mostly sunny conditions with a south wind 10-20 mph and gusts of up to 40 mph. According to the National Weather Service, the highs will drop back into the 40s by Friday.
