Camera theft may shutter Stateline man

A Stateline man admitted to walking off with two Canon digital cameras and then trying to sell the cameras back to their rightful owner on Craig's List.

Nathan D. Owen, 27, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of stolen property worth more than $250.

He told Judge Michael Gibbons that he saw the cameras and lenses sitting on a bench at a Stateline casino. He claimed he thought they were abandoned. The cameras' owner said he went to breakfast at the casino and left the cameras behind.

"I was trying to sell the cameras to get money to go home to Alaska," he said. "I ended up trying to sell them to the owner. It was the wrong thing for me to do."

Owen's attorney Derrick Lopez said the owner of the cameras claimed they were worth $10,000.

Owen faces up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine when he appears for sentencing on March 24.
