NV gov. says he'll meet with lawmakers on budget

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Gov. Jim Gibbons says his office will hold "office hours" to meet with state lawmakers to discuss budget issues.

Gibbons says Nevada's growing revenue shortfall presents "unprecedented budget challenges," and he's open to sharing ideas.

The first meeting will be Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. Gibbons says staff will schedule similar meetings every two weeks through February.

The first-term Republican governor has asked for updated revenue projections from the Economic Forum before deciding whether a special legislative session is needed to address the state budget.

He's also asked agency heads to prepare scenarios on how to cut up to 10 percent of spending.
