Service Saturday for Douglas swimmer

A celebration of life is noon Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville, for Douglas High School sophomore Molly Rae Lahlum who died April 23, 2009, in Reno. She was 15.

Father Paul McCollum will officiate at the service with a reception to follow in the pastoral center.

Molly died two weeks after she collapsed at a swim meet at the Carson Aquatic Center.

She was a member of the Douglas High and Douglas Dolfin swim teams and Douglas High School Block D Club.

Since her death, family and friends have asked the community to "smile to remember Molly" and live her legacy of trying "to brighten everyone's day, cherish family and friends, and never take a day for granted."

Molly is survived by her parents, Ray and Mary Lahlum, and brother Pat, all of Gardnerville; her grandparents in Chicago and Skokie, Ill., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Denver, Illinois and Dublin, Ireland.

Donations may be made to a scholarship to be established in Molly's name and awarded annually to a senior swimmer. Mail to "Block D Scholarship Fund-Douglas High School," PO Box 1888, Minden, NV 89423. Specify "Molly Scholarship" on the memo line.

Friends have also scheduled a free car wash 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Stratton Center, Gardnerville, to benefit the family. Donations will be accepted.
