R-C Sports Notebook: Busy week means smaller notebook

I'm still kind of catching up from the last weekend in Carson Valley sports, so there isn't a whole lot extra to write in this week's notebook. Here are a couple things though:

- Tyler May hasn't lost a start since May of 2007. That's a stretch of nine games. If not for his shoulder injury halfway through last year, it might be longer " you never know.

With his win over Manogue on Thursday, May ran his career win total to 19, tying Russ Garside at No. 2 in the school record books. He needs one more win to tie Shawn Estes' mark of 20 and two more to break it.

- Not much time for all five items, but how about Wooster baseball? I kept seeing those scores coming back from their trip to Las Vegas and wondering what was going on. The Colts have made as big a midseason turnaround as I have seen in quite a while. They should make the playoffs and don't be shocked to see them pull of a major upset once they're there.

Baseball

The top athletes, regardless of sport, at Douglas High determined by production during competition, overall value to their team, ability to perform with consistency in routine situations, performance compared to others at the same position throughout the state/region, ability to come up big in clutch situations, versatility, attitude, sportsmanship, overall athletic ability, heart, potential at the next level, and a host of other intangibles (emotional leadership, role-playing value, work ethic, etc.) This is all, of course, just my opinion.

- Thank you San Francisco 49ers for reverting to your 1980s vintage uniforms. It's a move that may be the final push to sweep away from my Bengals back to my original favorite team (keep in mind I was five when I discovered and six when I discovered the Bengals).

Now if the Phillies would just go back to their old powder blue uniforms ...

- Somehow, without fail, every children's book or toy collection that in any way involves animals always includes cows, horses, giraffes, elephants, hippos and dogs. Seriously, where else in life are all of these animals in any way related to each other?
