Patricia Ann Willard

Funeral services are 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City for former longtime Genoa resident Patricia Ann Willard, 71, who died on April 16, 2009, after a battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family in her son's home in La Grange, Ky. She was 71.

Born Nov. 1, 1937, to Harry and Dorothy Atchison, she grew up in Carson Valley, and graduated from Douglas County High School in 1955.

She served on the Genoa Town Board in several capacities, including chairwoman, and was chairwoman of Candy Dance.

Mrs. Willard actively participated in the VFW Auxiliary where she served in various leadership positions for 22 years, she often visited veterans in the local nursing homes and placing flags and flowers on grave sites.

She worked at the Continental Telephone Co. and retired from the Carson Valley Inn in 2005. Her favorite job was taking care of children in her home.

Mrs. Willard was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Dorothy Atchison, and daughter Susan.

She is survived by sister Phyllis Pedrojetti of Gardnerville, brothers Donald Atchison of Yerington and Dennis Atchison of Smith Valley; son Russell Willard of La Grange; daughter Peggy Willard-Ross and son Clifford Sorensen, both of Carson City; grandchildren Kelly Porter, Ryan and James Willard, Harold Willard, Amy Sorensen, Ashley Russell and Joseph Shura.

Private family burial will be in the Genoa Cemetery at a later date.
