Woman killed in Alpine snowmobile accident

Alpine County rescuers responded to a snowmobile fatality at Blue Lakes this afternoon.

A Snowcat is on the way to pick up the victim and family members after a woman reportedly collided with a tree.

Alpine County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Michitarian said the coroner's office is on its way to the scene, about 12 miles up Blue Lakes Road from Highway 88.

Another female who was also on the snowmobile was injured in the accident.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter has been called to transfer the injured person for treatment. Members of the victims' family were at the scene.

Mitchitarian said Blue Lakes Road is a popular snowmobiling area.
