Douglas senior named National Merit semifinalist

Douglas High School senior Lulu Yu has been named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

More than 1.5 million juniors entered the 2009 competition by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test.

Approximately 16,000 of those students scored high enough to make it to the semifinals.

To become a finalist, a semifinalist must demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership skills throughout the rest of the year.

They must submit a scholarship application that includes a personal essay.

In spring of 2009, selected finalists will compete for more than 8,000 scholarships worth more than $35 million.
