300 attend Obama campaign event

Staff Reports

The Douglas County Obama Team welcomed more than 300 people to the group's Obama Bash rally last Saturday night at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club.

Co-leaders of the Obama Team, Debbie Chappell and Gary Kendricks, and Rick Brown acted as hosts.

During one of the evening's speeches, Chappell asked supporters to focus on the issues for the 2008 presidential campaign and not get distracted by the opposition.

"This election is about the plight we Americans find ourselves in after eight disastrous years of incompetence," she said. "We're deeper in debt than ever before, we're fighting two wars on two continents, we're losing our homes, we're losing our jobs, the prices of food and gas are astronomical and we have lost the respect of the entire international community at large.

"We are ready for Barack Obama and Joe Biden to be the president and vice president. My question to you is: Are you ready to make it happen?"

Speakers Lance Whitney, rural Obama campaign coordinator, and Assembly District 39 candidate and current planning commissioner JoEtta Brown reported on the National Democratic Convention in Denver.

Guests snacked on hors d'oeuvres and danced to music provided by Blue Haven Ranch Band.
