Volleyball: Douglas cruises against Fallon

The Douglas High School volleyball team swept cleanly past Fallon Tuesday night 25-12, 25-11 and 25-18 in Minden.

Fallon led only briefly early in the second game and never by more than one point as Douglas capitalized on its service game with nine aces, including three straight from Megan Mitchell to start the match.

It was a far cry from last week's five-game win over Truckee when the Tigers committed 23 service errors. Douglas improved to 12-0 overall and 1-0 in Sierra League play heading into a crucial league matchup at Galena Thursday.

Mitchell finished with five aces to compliment her 23 assists and four kills.

Jourdan Burke led the attack with 13 kills, Jessica Waggoner had nine, Taryn Williams had eight and Rebecca Antti and Shannon Dugan each had four.

After jumping out to a 15-8 lead in the first game, Douglas went on an 8-0 run highlighted by kills from Burke, Williams, Mitchell and Waggoner to pull out to a 23-8 lead.

Fallon got two kills from Sara Parsons and one from Kenyah Brown to clase the gap to 24-12 but Williams finished off a Mitchell set to end the first game.

The Greenwave got out to leads of 2-1, 3-2 and 6-5 on kills from Callie Black, Parsons and Nicole Rothery to start the second game but only managed to tie things up at eight before Douglas went on a 7-0 run to pull away.

The Tigers extended that run to outscore Fallon 17-4 to close out the game.

Both teams fielded mostly their second-stringers in the third game and Douglas' Jackie Harper came away with 13 assists while Dugan came up with all of her kills in the third. Christine DuPuis added two kills in the third for Douglas.

Parsons ended up leading Fallon with six kills while Kenyah Brown had four kills and two aces and Khaliah Brown had two kills, Callie Black and Nicole Rothery each finished with two kills.

Syndee Weddell had seven assists and Rothery had five.
