Firefighters honored at station opening

Nearly 20 East Fork firefighters and medics were honored on Saturday at a badge pinning ceremony recognizing the many changes that have taken place at the department.

Chief Tod Carlini recognized new deputy fire chief for operations Steve L. Tognoli, and new training and safety deputy chief Scott Fraser.

Fraser introduced newly promoted fire Capt. Matthew Kruse.

Newly promoted training captains were John Bellona, John Brawley and Larry Gross.

John Babcock is the new fire inspector.

Newly appointed firefighter/medics were Jeremy Chandler, Dennis Cote, Aaron Ghysels, Mike Hackler, Steve Koontz, Nicole Lafkas, Kevin Repan, Matt Smith and Patrick Hughes.

The ceremony featured a flag raising by honor guards from the East Fork Fire & Paramedic Districts and the Carson City Fire Department, and bagpiper Rick James.

The National Anthem was performed by Tammy Adamson, and Hilltop Community Church Pastor Don Baumann gave the invocation.

Among those who received special recognition were former Douglas County Manager Dan Holler, Sierra Lutheran High School Principal Doug Hone, Hilltop Community Church Pastor Jim Winans and the Bureau of Land Management.

Speakers included Commission Chairman Kelly Kite, County Manager T. Michael Brown and Bryant Smith of the Bureau of Land Management.

By far the biggest badge went to the new Sunridge Drive fire station No. 12 which was officially opened.

The new fire station cost $2.8 million to build.
