Drumming class

West African Djembe drumming classes at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Five Wednesday beginning classes, 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Silk painting workshop

n How to See Photographically. Class includes discussions on photographic composition, critiques and field trips. For film or digital cameras. Open to ages 18 and older. Class is Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 to Oct. 25 at the recreation annex building in Gardnerville. Cost is $75 and pre-registration is required.

n Dog Obedience. Instructor Guy Yeaman uses a light-handed approach to help you teach your dog to obey the commands: heal, sit, stand, stay and recall. Dogs must be at least 4 months old, have a choke chain and a fabric or leather lead. Class is Sept. 10 through Nov. 29 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds building. Cost is $80 and pre-registration is required.

n Ballroom Dance. Learn and practice the fundamentals of the fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Classes are Fridays Sept. 12 - Oct. 3: 6-6:45 p.m. for ages 8-12, 2:45-3:45 p.m. for ages 13-18 and 7-8 p.m. for adults at the Dance Workshop, 1697 County Road in Minden. Cost is $45 per person for youth classes and $70 per couple for the adult class.

n Scrapbooking Workshop. Bring photos along with albums, adhesives, papers and pens. Class is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost is $10 and pre-registration is required. Information, 782-9828.

n Concealed Weapons. This course meets the Nevada state concealed weapons requirement and can be taken by CCW applicants or anyone wanting to learn to shoot handguns. Course includes two classroom sessions and and live fire drills at the range. Classes are 6-9:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and 19 at the recreation annex building and Sept. 20 at the Douglas County shooting range. Cost is $90 plus a $10 insurance fee.
