Staff Reports

Flip Flops Kids consignment sale

The Flip Flop Kids Shop fall consignment sale is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Carson Valley Arts Council building, Highway 395 and County Road, Minden. The 50 percent off sale is 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Flip Flop Kids hopes the consignment sale will encourage parents and children to recycle toys, clothes, children's items and women's clothing as a way to raise funds for their schools and other organizations. Schools, churches, and day care centers have participated in the consignment sales to raise funds to help their organizations and may earn up to 70 percent of the proceeds from their items.

This not only helps families in hard economic times but also encourages families to lower the amount of consumerism. Information, flipflopkidsshop.com

Touch of Class craft show

Show organizer Sue Bennett said about 550 people visited last year's three-day craft show.

"People come back every day we're open," Bennett said. "The group is all local crafters and some have been here every year we've had the show."

The craft show features holiday items, jewelry, quilts, dolls, pottery, baby items, decorated clothing, wooden toys and puzzles. A percentage of the proceeds of the Touch of Class craft show benefits Austin's House.

"I'm proud of my affiliation with them," said Bennett. "The craft show is one way of getting the word out about Austin's House."
