Learn about Medicare at Walker Senior Center today

Inyo and Mono county's Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program will be sponsoring a presentation at the Walker Senior Center, 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. today.

The presentation will cover Medicare basics, with time for questions afterward. It is well worth it for those approaching the Medicare time.

Power outages

On Dec. 6, the Antelope Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee provided time for two gentlemen from Sierra Pacific Power/NV Energy to let us know their future plans for our area's power service.

They advised that eventually, another company will purchase the rights to service the valley. In the same session, they said that they weren't aware of the great number of power "blips" that occur here.

The residents present at the meeting made them aware of the problem, to which they requested that we call them whenever the power flickers off and on, as is usual around here. Please be sure to call them when this happens, so that the problem can be addressed and possibly eliminated.

The number you should call is (775) 834-2900. If we all call, maybe we can stop having to reset all our clocks on a regular basis.

Sports update

Unfortunately, the Coleville High School Wolves football team ran into a juggernaut in Pahranagat Valley last Saturday in the 1A tournament. My fingers can't even bring themselves to type the final score, but based on our score of 74 points, our boys did well against a super-tough opponent. It was still a great year for them, and they did so well. We should all be very proud of them and their effort.

The middle school boys' basketball team won their first three games and are looking forward to rolling on. They play three games away from home this week, but will be back in action in Coleville on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. Keep going, boys.

Health clinic

The Mono County Health Nurse will be at the Walker Senior Center on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. I know it wasn't expected that she would be here with the holidays this month, but she will be there for blood pressure, shots, etc.

Coleville Boosters

The Coleville Boosters will again have their annual dinner, raffle and silent auction at the Walker Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 5. There will also be a visit from Santa, with goodies for the kids. More news as it approaches.
