Collision with power pole causes Gardnerville outage

A man suffered minor injuries late Thursday when his pickup truck collided with a power pole at Highway 395 and Stodick Parkway just south of Gardnerville.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Trooper Chuck Allen said Highway 395 was closed from 10:45 p.m. until 4:20 a.m. due to downed power lines.

Allen said Washoe Tribal Police and Douglas County sheriff's deputies help divert traffic while the highway was closed.

Allen said the driver, who was not identified pending further investigation, knocked a power pole over. He said several wires crossed the highway forcing the closure while Sierra Pacific Power Co. crews repaired the lines.

Sierra Pacific Power Co. spokesperson Karl Walquist said 1,690 customers were without power for an hour.

Allen said the driver reported injuries, but refused transport by paramedics.
