R&T Cleaners closes shop after 20 years

R & T Cleaners of Gardnerville, a dry cleaning service which has been in business for more than 20 years, is closing its doors.

"It was the worst January and February I've ever had," said owner Kathy Trute.

"Last year, we were seeing 1,100 to 1,300 pounds of clothing a week. This year, we're seeing 700 to 800 pounds a week."

Trute said some investors are interested in reopening the business in the future.

"People should know there is a high possibility it will reopen," said Trute.

"Everything will be the same, except I won't be there."

Trute said she wishes the closure was part of her retirement plan, but it's not: she's looking for work elsewhere.

The Nevada chapter of the Associated General Contractors has named its 2008 president, Gardnerville resident Mike Cate.

Cate is co-owner of Pavers Plus Inc., which specializes in concrete, masonry and interlocking pavers. He graduated from Douglas High School and attended University of Nevada, Reno.

Cate has more than 30 years in the construction industry. He formed Construction Development Services in 1985.

In 2002, he partnered with John Garrett to form Pavers Plus.

"I look forward to serving as AGC president this year and hope to bring the next generation of contractors into a more active role within the organization and the community," Cate said.
