St. Patrick's Day party at Buckaroos

Carson Valley Inn entertainment


Red Hot Smokin' Aces appear through Sunday and various duos entertain on Monday nights. Cabaret Lounge live entertainment is presented with no cover and no minimum in 45-minute shows at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.


With vocal harmonies and styling as only a family has, the Red Hot Smokin' Aces play country and oldies to pop chart toppers - everything from Gretchen Wilson to Stevie Wonder, and Merle Haggard to Roy Orbison - the music depends on the audience. The heart of Red Hot Smokin' Aces is father and daughter Jeffrey and Ileia who collectively have toured the Northwest for more than 40 years.


The Trey Stone Band takes the Cabaret Lounge stage Tuesday and plays until March 23. Trey Stone was a key player the '70s soul/funk explosion and recently toured with Tower of Power. Stone contributes talents on guitar and keyboards, and as vocalist, writer and producer. The Trey Stone Band entertains with rhythm & blues and old-time rock 'n' roll.

Battle of the Bands


Area bands are needed to compete in the 2008 Battle of the Bands, 4-10 p.m. March 29, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The first-place winning band will receive a recording session and other prizes. Prizes awarded to second- and third-place winners.


Applications available at the Douglas County Parks & Recreation office on Waterloo Lane for those interested in playing in the battle of the bands. Submit applications with demo CD or video tape and a $15 entry fee. Information at the parks and recreation office, 782-9828.




Acoustic jam at Eddy Street Book Exchange

Local musicians are invited for an acoustic jam, 2:30 - 5 p.m. March 30, at the Eddy Street Book Exchange. Musicians of any acoustic instrument of any level of experience or those who don't play but want to sing along are welcome. Author discusses 'Misfits Country' at Eddy Street Books


Arthur Winfield Knight of Yerington will discuss and sign copies of his book, "Misfits Country," 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eddy Street Book Exchange, 1225 Eddy St., Gardnerville.


Knight's novel is set during the making of the 1961 movie "The Misfits" which was filmed in Nevada and starred Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable in their final movie roles.


Knight and "Misfits Country" will be featured in conjunction with a showing of "The Misfits" at this year's Reno Film Festival. Knight is a novelist, poet and playwright who was published more than 3,000 poems, short stories and film reviews in magazines and anthologies. His works have been translated into Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish and Turkish. Knight has been an English professor at various colleges and universities since 1966.
