Museum swap meet Saturday

Attention all photo contest entrants: Do we still have your photos? There are a lot of photos sitting at the museum. If we have some of yours, please come in a get them. However, if you were one of our winners, we need to keep that photo just a bit longer for the 2009 calendar.

A couple of corrections need to be made to the last column. If you make notes on your calendar about events you wish to attend, please note the following changes.

The Taste of the Towns tickets are $20 per person, not $25. That means that the event is just a bit more affordable and you can bring a guest or two. Tickets for the Aug. 2 event are available now at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center or call 782-2555 and charge them to your credit card.

The membership picnic is Sept. 14, at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa. This used to be an annual event for members which we are reviving this year. All members are invited. Bring a salad if your last name starts with letters A through M, or a dessert if your last name starts with N through Z. Please RSVP to 782-2555 as DCHS will be providing the main course.

The weather may be hot, but nothing's hotter that the July events we have planned. Saturday is another Douglas County Historical Society Swap Meet. Come to sell or buy and meet some of your neighbors. The next swap meet is July 26. Applications for booth space are on line or at the Gardnerville museum.

Saturday, July 19, is the Art and Wine Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. A wine glass is available for $10 for tasting wines poured by Lira's Super Market. The Lions Club and the Cattlewomen's Association are providing food and music will be provided by Garian Music. Area artists will display and sell their art.

While you are at the Art and Wine Festival, pick up tickets for the raffle prize of 30 bottles of wine. Raffle tickets are available at the Main Street Bookstore in the Gardnerville museum and you need not be present to win.

You can also pre-order your 2009 DCHS calendar. We will be there taking orders only for calendars; no need to bring money yet. We are still working on our costs to get you this calendar at the best possible price. The calendar will be available in plenty of time for Christmas gift giving.

The Taste of the Towns on Aug. 2 will be the chance to taste food from restaurants including the Overland, J.T. Basque Bar & Dining Room, New Rancho Grande, Two Guys and Woodette's. There more food booths and shops set up in the museum parking lot. For information, call the Douglas County Historical Society at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center at 782-2555. Visit our Web site at www.historicnevada.org. Remember, DCHS and its two museums do not receive any regular state or county funding. It's up to our members and friends to help us keep our doors open.
