Family: Married to wife Jane; four children, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild

Are you currently working or retired? Retired

Former profession: Truck driver (48 years)

How long have you been a volunteer at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office? Eight years

What are your duties? Citizen patrol officer for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Responsible for residence and area vacation checks, abandoned vehicle enforcement, illegal parking enforcement, recovering and documenting found property incidents, documenting graffiti, destruction of property or illegal dumping incidents, transport and placement of sheriff's radar trailer, VIN inspections, supervising jail trusty work details, assisting the Douglas County Sheriff's Office during special events such as local parades and county events, Kid's Fishing Derby, Annual Historic Pony Express Ride, and other functions.

How much time do you volunteer per month? Approximately 50 hours with the sheriff's office; approximately 25 hours with the Food Closet

Why and how did you become a volunteer? Formerly I was a volunteer with the Hayward, Calif., Police Department and the Dublin, Calif., fire department. I greatly enjoyed both experiences, and wanted to do the same for Douglas County.

Favorite aspects of volunteering: Helping people and serving the community.

What would you say to others to encourage others to volunteer? Help serve the county and community if you can.
