Enola Jaynette

'Jay' Hoppe

1926-2008

Long-time Valley resident Enola Jaynette "Jay" Hoppe died on Jan. 8, 2008. Hoppe was born on Nov. 3, 1926, in Sacramento to Manora Cornelius Lewis and Roger Goodell Lewis.

She graduated from Hayward High School in June 1944, and the following July married Edward Chester Hoppe. When they met in November 1943, she was a senior in high school and Ed was a U.S. Marine recovering from injuries sustained at Vella la Vella during World War II. They lived in the San Francisco Bay area, raising three sons, Bruce, Scott and Jeff. Upon their retirement, Mrs. Hoppe as a department manager at Montgomery Wards in Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Ed as an auditor at the Oakland Naval Supply Center, they moved to Ruhenstroth in 1979.

Both wanted to be involved in the local community with Mrs. Hoppe working for the Carson Valley Emergency Medical Center for 15 years, while Mr. Hoppe ran the Coventry Cross Thrift Shop for 20 years. In 2000 they moved to Minden and really retired. Throughout their retirement they enjoyed being active members of the Coventry Cross Episcopal Church. Their family and their faith were very important parts of their lives. Together they shared 63 very happy years of marriage.

Mrs. Hoppe is predeceased by husband Ed in July 2007 and son Bruce in November 2006. She is survived by her brother Reginald Fifer and wife Maria of Beaumont, Calif.; son Scott Hoppe and wife Wilma of South Lake Tahoe; son Jeff Hoppe and wife Cheri of Virginia City; daughter-in-law Sharie Hoppe of Martinez, Calif.; grandchildren, Gerrit Hoppe, Brooke and Megan Hoppe, and great-grandchildren Abby and Gina Hoppe.

The couple will be missed by both their family and friends. No services have been planned at this time.
