Lecture series continues at museum Thursday

The subject of Douglas County Historical Society's Lecture Series is "Profits, Plots and Lynching" with speaker Chris Bayer, 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Bayer takes on the character of Maj. William Ormsby to tell the story of how the struggle over the central overland wagon road degenerated into bloody conflict between two local factions.

Set against the backdrop of an approaching Civil War, the true story of early Carson Valley ties the region to the fortunes of the West and the nation.

Free one-hour lectures are presented the second Thursday of the month.

The museum and Main Street Book Store will be open before and after the lecture.
