Happy holidays to all

Well, it's just about that time. The kids are out of school and enjoying their winter break, all my friends are frantically baking holiday goodies and planning for their special dinners, and I've just been enjoying it all. As I write this, it's still a question whether we'll have snow or not, but we'll enjoy the season anyway.

One thing I'm really hoping is that we don't have a repeat of last Thursday night's power outages. I counted 12 of them. When the power even flickers, our phone's answering machine makes an announcement and then announces when power is back.

After six times, I knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep, so I got up and watched out my office window. It was amazing to watch the lights in the valley going off and back on, over and over again. It's just a real pain to have to reset all the clock radios and timers on appliances, so I didn't even try to set any of them until after the last outage around 4:45 a.m. Let's hope that doesn't happen again soon.

From our house to yours, have a very happy holiday and enjoy the time spent with your friends and relatives.
