Young Chautauqua to start Jan. 6

The Douglas County Historical Society Young Chautauqua program begins with an information meeting, 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Students in fourth to 12th grade are invited to choose a character from history to research and present in the first person.

The Young Chautauqua program includes a T-shirt design contest with participants receiving shirts with the winning design.

The group meets every other week for 11 sessions then performs in character under the tent at Mormon Station State Park on June 17 and 18.

The Young Chautauqua program is funded in part by Nevada Humanities.
