A Sunday afternoon brush fire resulted in the evacuation of the YMCA campground and Sherwin campgrounds near Highway 395 and the Mammoth Lakes turnoff.
The fire was reported to Mono County dispatch at about 3:33 p.m. near Sherwin Creek Road.
The Mono County Sheriff's Department, Mammoth Lakes Police Department, Long Valley Fire Department, BLM and Inyo Forest Service responded to the scene. the fire was reported as being 25-30 acres wild land burning at the Sherwin Lakes Basin. Sherwin Lakes Road was closed from Highway 395 to Old Mammoth Road. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
