The R-C Morning Report

A couple of 4 magnitude earthquakes up in Mogul on Thursday are the latest in a series of reminders that we live in earthquake country. It's been a while since we've had a significant quake in either the Horseshoe Bend area in the Pine Nuts or on the Genoa fault, located along the west side of the Valley, but the potential is there. Nevada is the third most active state in the union for quakes, so be prepared. For more information, visit UNR's seismology lab at www.seismo.unr.edu/

Federal firefighters should be wrapping up their burning along Poor Boy Road in Markleeville. Smoke could be seen from the Valley on Thursday evening. The Bureau of Land Management's Mark Struble said a crew was on the prescribed burn through the night and will be hosing it down today.

It's going to warm up fast this weekend and the cool down again next week. Highs will be in the 60s and 70s, but the lows will also be quite warm in the 40s. We won't see freezing temperatures again until the middle of next week. The National Weather Service is forecasting partly sunny skies today with the high near 67. That will peak at 78 on Sunday.
