Samaritans make prom memory
Editor:
I'm from Yerington and April 19 was my prom. A group of seven of my friends and I decided to go over to Minden to eat dinner at Fiona's Bar and Grill. When we arrived everyone was very nice and asking why we were all dressed up. As we were being seated the manager came and thanked us for driving the distance that we did and for supporting them.
As the evening went on our waitress took our order and one of my friends decided to crack a joke. He asked (while laughing) if they had anything for free and everyone laughed and then let it go.
Well halfway through dinner we had a couple stop by our table and compliment on how nice we all looked and told us to have fun at prom. We all finished dinner and went to pay the bill when we were told that our bill had already been paid for by the last couple that stopped by our table.
We were very bummed that we couldn't thank them in person but were, and still are, very grateful for that very generous act. Words can never express how much we appreciated what they did for us. They will never be forgotten and they really made our prom very special.

Airport decisions should be open
Editor:
Mr. Rogers, you certainly know how to win friends and influence people. You should go a long way - perhaps back to Colorado. This letter is to anyone concerned about the future of this beautiful Valley.
Mr. Jon Hannan's letter was very informative about the true situation of the Vail-Eagle Airport.
After Mr. Roger's blatant assertion about the airport at Vail not being any kind of a problem, we now find out it is 30 miles from Vail. That is really astounding that Mr. Rogers would equate the Vail-Eagle Airport with our circumstances.
According to the April 2008 issue of Popular Science, on take-offs, landings, and taxiing down the runways every pound of jet fuel used creates three pounds of carbon dioxide - during combustion, two oxygen atoms from the air are attached onto every carbon atom in the fuel effectively tripling its mass. So it would seem that pollution is certainly an enormous concern for the Valley nestled with the mountains around us.
If we had a true environmental impact study, I am certain that there is no way they would approve the pollution and noise that the PiƱon Aero development would create in our peaceful Valley.
Also there is the fact of real estate prices plummeting. Of course, the corporations and individuals in Silicon Valley and other locations that are so avaricious, greedy, and selfish could care less how they destroy us and our beautiful community.
They say, "Well, the FAA controls what goes on at the airport." Who do they get their funding from? From our taxes that we pay.
Did I mention the danger of jets flying over our homes and the schools in this area?
Since the county commissioners are elected by us, I think they should have their meetings in the evening so the people in this area may attend instead of 1 p.m. when most people are working. Probably they would get more feedback that way.
The last time I checked we still had a democracy in our country where the majority of people had a chance to vote on issues. There should be an immediate injunction on this project until the majority of the people are given a chance to voice their opinions. This has been kept sub rosa from us long enough.
