Reno man killed in Walker River accident

A Reno man was killed in an accident on Highway 208 between Wellington and Yerington on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Larry Rex Newell, 68, who was a passenger in a pickup that left the road in Wilson Canyon at about 8:30 a.m.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the pickup was driven by Reno resident Warren Bingham, 59.

Bingham was driving south on Highway 208 along the Walker River's west fork when the pickup left the roadway, rolled down the embankment and landed on its top, according to the NHP.

Bingham received injuries that were non-life threatening and was taken by ambulance to South Lyon Community Medical Center in Yerington for treatment.

Newell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the cause of the accident is still under investigation to determine the sequence of events. Witnesses may call (775) 687-0400 referencing case No. 0804190324.
