Remembering Max Jones
Editor:
Max Jones was a great guy. I remember his droll sense of humor. We met almost a half century ago.
He was the butcher in his market. Most memorable was being invited to ride horseback with him in the Pine Nuts.
Unforgettable was the two of us rounding up the cattle on the old Flying Me ranch in Washoe Valley in frigid weather.
As an Easterner, the closest I had come to that was watching "Rawhide."
Never having to saddle a horse in Brooklyn, Max kindly did that chore. He loved to kid me, that the water was heating up in the temple basement and ready to baptize me. Max, wherever you are, I'm still with Farmer's and Mary Jane is my agent.

Thanks for
standing ground
Editor:
I applaud Susan Lacey, the Douglas County Professional Education Association, and all others that helped the 8 percent pay hike become effective for our district's teachers.
Standing one's ground pays off; our teachers deserve the better pay for their efforts in this county.

Impeach state attorney general
Editor:
While everyone is watching the Presidential race, look at what is happening under our noses in our own state.
While Arizona and several other states have passed a law penalizing employers who knowingly hire illegals, and have no trouble enforcing that law our Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto says the "fines would be contrary to the federal Immigration Reform and Control Act." Isn't that a special ruling?
Several states have enacted such laws and the illegal have exited those states only to come to our do-nothing state. All while our elected officials, are supporting special interests like the American Civil Liberties Union and Hispanics in Politics.
Is this is what we get with Hispanics in Politics? Anything that is good for the Hispanics and damn the rest of us.
We need to recall any elected official who does not support the best policies for the State of Nevada.
Per March 27 business section of the Nevada Appeal the civil liberties union thinks "it should be left up to the feds," isn't that more of "it ain't my job"?
It is common knowledge that the illegal have cost this country and continue to cost this country more than the Iraq war. Our schools are overloaded and over run, our English language is becoming obsolete, more and more employers requiring bilingual. Construction workers are being told it is unsafe to hire them if they don't speak Spanish because the others in employ speak only Spanish, it's a safety issue? Speaking only English has become a safety issue?
We have graffiti all over our town while the gangs mark their territory, in this sleepy little town. Now are privy to drive by, party shootings and stabbings, even deaths, and on and on. We have seen what the illegal have done to "Mexifornia" and now Catherine Cortez Masto has failed to take action to keep Nevada from the same fate.
More of the special baggage we the electorate are forced to live with because our attorney general doesn't see the eminent danger in illegal and enforcing laws to discourage their migration.
Impeach Catherine Cortez Masto.
