Art happenings in the Valley



The Carson Valley Art Association has a full calendar of fun events scheduled for the next few months.

Until Sept. 29, the CVAA Members Art Show will hang at Western Nevada College, 1680 Bently Parkway in Minden. College hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. There is no charge for this annual event showcasing some of Carson Valley's finest artists with a sampling of more than 30 paintings and photos. On Oct. 1, the WNC Racks Mini Exhibit will be hung from 10-11:30 a.m.


There will be a special art show during the Casa Bella Home and Garden Décor Show, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 13. There is still room for five more artists to participate. Cut-off date for participating is Oct. 1. This will be a fun event with wine and cheese being served in an outdoor location. Casa Bella is located at 1644 Highway 395 in Minden. The CVAA is announcing a call for artists for their annual Scholarship Art Show which helps raise money for the annual scholarships presented to deserving Douglas County art students to help further their education in the arts. Scholarship Art Show receiving will be 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 1 at the CVIC Hall, Esmeralda Avenue, Minden. An opening reception will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. Show hangs through Sunday, Nov. 4. The scholarship committee is still in need of raffle prizes for the event. For more information or to donate prizes contact Carolyn Denning, 783-9639.

The regular CVAA monthly meeting, Sept. 28, will be a special potluck luncheon at Margie Leslie's home, 994 Hidden Brook Court, Minden. The meeting/luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members, please bring a potluck dish to share and a gift-wrapped "white elephant" gift to exchange. Artisans International is having a call for artists for a juried exhibit and sale in their Minden gallery to take place Nov. 13 through Dec. 22. Artwork to be featured is "Places I Have Been." Submit portfolio of related work on CD or photographs by Sept. 15. If juried into the exhibit, all work must be submitted between Nov. 6-10. The meeting place of Carson Valley Art Association will have a new location as of January 2008. The meetings will be held, beginning at 1:30 p.m., the fourth Friday of every month at Western Nevada College, 1680 Bently Parkway, Minden. The new location will have a big mirror that will make it better to view what demonstrators are doing.


To become more involved in the art happenings in the Valley, join Carson Valley Art Association. It's an encouraging way learn new techniques, participate in workshops and seminars, display your work and share fresh new ideas with fellow artists. Enjoy the monthly demonstrations presented by members or guest demonstrators.
