Tennis: Tigers ousted in first round

With entries at the state tournament for the first time in several years, Douglas High put on a bit of a show in the first round.

Robert Shawhan and Keagan Chipp took on top-seeded Aushush Daulat and Andrew Whitling of Bonanza High School in the first round and gave them a tough fight before losing 6-4, 7-6 with the second set going to a tiebreaker. The Bonanza duo went on to win the state title.

Douglas freshman phenom Amelia Ritger, who'd won the regional title the week prior, lost to Green Valley's Jessica Hsu 6-4, 6-1 in the first round.

It marked Ritger's first loss as a high school player as she finished her season 32-1 overall.
