Basketball: CVMS off to quick start

The Carson Valley Middle School eighth-grade girls' basketball team has put together a 5-1 record through the first half of the season.

The Tigers opened the year with a 37-18 win over Alder Creek as Holly Downer scored 13 points and Kelsey Walsh added eight.

Carson Valley then topped Eagle Valley 25-4 in a game that saw Cassi Uhart and Katie Dry each score eight points while Downer scored seven. Coach Mike Rechs said Uhart played excellent defense on the post.

Uhart then scored 14 points in a 38-10 win over Fallon while Downer scored 10 and Dry added six.

Carson handed the Tigers their only loss of the season in a 23-22 tilt that had Uhart finishing with 12 and Downer scoring eight. The would-be game-winning layup was waived off because it came a second after time ran out.

Dry scored 10 points in a 33-8 win over South Tahoe while Downer scored eight and Savannah Wood scored six.

Carson Valley completed the first half of the season with a 30-20 win over rival Pau-Wa-Lu as Dry scored 15 points, Downer scored seven and Walsh finished with six.

The Carson Valley seventh graders put together impressive wins over Alder Creek (32-23), Fallon (23-10), Pau-Wa-Lu (18-7) and South Tahoe (13-9) while dropping a close game to Eagle Valley (16-15) and losing to Carosn 37-29.

Diana Regalado scored 17 points in the win over Alder Creek, 18 in the Fallon win, 12 in the Carson win and 10 in the Pau-Wa-Lu win.

Lexie Weaver had 10 points against Eagle Valley and five against South Tahoe and Jordan Chappell had four against Alder Creek, four against Eagle Valley, nine against Carson and two each against South Tahoe and Pau-Wa-Lu.

Erika Munoz, Nina Lehr, Taylor Bailey and MacKenzie Parks have all had points on the board so far this season as well.
