Douglas Fabrication moves from 100-year-old location

Welder Bruce Wise, known for forging branding irons for Valley ranches, is moving his business Douglas Fabrication from its Minden location.

For 27 years, Wise has been operating his business from a century-old red barn near the intersection of Esmeralda and Highway 395 in Minden.

"After 22 years of leasing the building, the owners want it back," said Wise.

Wise said he is currently looking for a new location and is thinking of building a new facility.

He said he is still working for regular clients but will also be doing some on-site work for Rite-Aid in Gardnerville, which is planning a remodel.

Merry Maids seeks household to help

The Merry Maids of Carson Valley are looking to sponsor free bi-weekly services for one year to a household affected by breast cancer.

During the past year, owners John and Tye Watson have sponsored free bi-weekly cleaning service to two patients in the midst of their cancer treatments.

"This program has proven to be a win-win for everyone," Tye Watson said. "We feel great about giving back to the community that has supported us and our business for over four years. The recipients enjoy a clean and healthy home. Our employees love the personal satisfaction of caring for a home and a family at a real time of need."

Legends Salon gets a personnel makeover

Legends salon, located in downtown Gardnerville inside the Historian Inn, has received a new owner, manicurist and stylist in the last few months.

Kristy Rupert bought the salon in June, hungry for a new business venture.

A month before, stylist Lolly Brewer had moved from Oregon and joined ranks at Legends where she now works for Rupert.

Newest to the salon is manicurist Dana Midkiff, who moved to Minden in July and started working at Legends in August.

Midkiff said she grew up in a salon run by her mother and finished beauty college by the time she was out of high school. She said she loves the historic location of the business.

Legends Salon is located at 1427 Highway 395, Ste. D in Gardnerville.
