Lions fundraiser barbecue Saturday

The 43rd annual Lions Club Deer Hunters Family Barbecue will take place Saturday, 5 p.m. at the Walker Community Center. As always, they will be serving their delicious deep-pit barbecued meat, as well as the addition of ribs to this year's menu. The dinner, with all the trimmings and dessert, will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. The funds raised go to support the Lions Club projects, including a scholarship for a local high school graduate. The raffle prizes are great - a 47-inch high-definition TV, rifle with scope, camping gear, a night in Reno with lodging and meals, and many more. Come on down and have a great meal and fun evening with old and new friends.

Flu vaccine clinic

Mono County Health Department nurse, Carolyn Balliet, will be giving flu shots at the Walker Senior Center next Tuesday, Oct. 9, noon to 2 p.m. She will also have a sign-up sheet for those wanting shingles vaccine, which will be given Oct. 23. Only those who register in advance for this important vaccine will be able to receive it. The cost will be $155, which isn't covered by health insurance plans, but might be covered under a prescription plan, if you have a written prescription from your doctor. For further information, call (760) 924-1830.

Walker Fall Festival and Duck Race

The always-fun fall festival is just around the corner. Oct. 13 and 14, along the highway in Walker, will be crafts, artists, flea marketers, music, raffles, good food and much more. It will start at 8 a.m. each day, with the duck race at noon on Sunday. Be sure to purchase at least one duck for $5 or a "Six-Quack" for $25, to have a chance to win some really nice prizes.
