Marjorie Bernice Weekley

1912 Ð 2007

A memorial service to be 10:30 a.m. Friday for Marjorie Bernice Weekley, 95, at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop Street, Carson City. Mrs. Weekly died Nov. 16, 2007, at an assisted living home in Southern California.

Born June 27, 1912, in the farmhouse built by her father near the town of Woodburn, Iowa, to Minnie Elizabeth and William Franklin Shepherd, she was the youngest of five children.

Crop failures led to the loss of the family farm and the family moved to Colorado. She graduated from Walsenburg High School at age 15 and attended Le Gall Beauty College in Pueblo, Colo. She married Matt Weekley in Yuma, Ariz., in 1933 and the couple lived in Southern California. With the Great Depression and no work in California they returned to Colorado and settled in Grand Junction where, with $800, they started the Marjorie Lee Beauty Salon.

They raised their two children, Robert and Richard and moved to Reno and then eventually retired in Gardnerville. Mrs Weekley was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. After her husband's death in 1980 she traveled through Europe, and during a trip to Israel, she was baptized in the Jordan River. She remarried Roy Hallquist, living in Gardnerville until his death.

She remained in her home until age 92, moving to assisted living facility in Southern California near son Richard and his family.

Mrs. Weekley is survived by sons Robert and his wife Elaine; Richard and his wife Rosalba; three grandchildren Michel, Patricia and Matthew.

Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Funeral Home in Carson City.
