Planning Commission has brush with Open Meeting Law

Four members of the Douglas County Planning Commissioners violated the Open Meeting Law Thursday, when they met with ranchers to discuss the division of land for conservation purposes.

Commissioners Matt McKinney, Lawrence Howell, Margaret Pross and Jim Madsen met with two ranchers for several minutes to discuss the development of 2-acre parcels during a break in the commissions' regular meeting Tuesday.

Deputy District Attorney Cynthea Gregory said there were no deliberations and no decisions were made.

"With this discussion on record, any perceived violation is cured," Gregory said. "And the public has the opportunity to comment."
