Coleville football undefeated

After 15 years of not reaching the playoffs in their league, the Coleville Wolves football team is now 10-0 for the season. They will be playing against Tonopah next weekend and then move on to the state championship tournament at Damonte Ranch in Reno Nov. 17. Their year has been fantastic, with outstanding effort by all the players and the success that comes with hard work. As of this column's deadline, it had not been determined where next Saturday's game will be played, but you can find out by checking with any of the Coleville Boosters members. If they play at home, we've all got to get out there and keep on rooting for them.

The volleyball team has also had a great year and will be heading to the state tournament in Las Vegas as the No. 2 seed from the northern region. They finished their league with a 16-0 record, so we expect their usual quality play in the tourney. We wish them the very best.

Medicare meeting

Nov. 15 from 1-3 p.m. there will be a very educational forum on all parts of Medicare available for 2008. This will be held at the Walker Senior Center and is vital to all of us possibly wanting or needing to use that program. This information is being provided to us by the Inyo Mono Area Agency on Aging.

Artists show

Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Antelope Valley Artists will be holding the annual show of their works. This will take place at the Walker Senior Center, and if last year was any example, it is well worth a visit. I can really appreciate their talent and creativity, since I wasn't blessed with it.

Women's Club Bazaar

On Nov. 11, beginning at noon, there will be a wide array of crafts booths with many great gift items. From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., they will be holding a dinner of roast beef or chicken at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children 3-10 years old. They always have wonderful raffle and door prizes, as well as the raffle of a beautiful hand-made quilt, so don't miss it. An added bonus this year is that the Mono County health nurse will be there from 1- 3:30 p.m. with flu, pneumonia and tetanus shots available. Hope to see you there.

Coleville Boosters Club dinner

Nov. 17, after what we expect to be a successful trip to Reno for the football team, the Boosters Club will be holding a western-style barbecue dinner at the Walker Community Center. There will be ribs, chicken and all the trimmings. The doors open at 4 p.m., with dinner scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12. This very active group supports the students at Coleville High School and would welcome your help and participation.

Antelope Valley United Methodist Church

The little white church with the red roof has undergone a minor facelift. They recently completed the addition of a wing to house their Sunday school class. Parents can now enjoy church, knowing that their children are well cared for just one room away. The church members would like to thank everyone who has given so much of their time and money to make this happen. If you would like to see the new look up close, you're invited to attend their Sunday services at 10 a.m.
