Sturgess new Miss Douglas

Douglas High School senior Alicia Sturgess is the new Miss Douglas County. Sturgess was crowned at Mont Bleu Casino in Stateline on March 23.

Julie Jones was named Miss Carson Valley and Skylar Young received honors as Miss Congeniality.

All three are seniors at Douglas High School.

April Eddy, who helped Sturgess prepare, said she is looking forward to the Miss Nevada Pageant, which will be in Reno this year.

"Usually if it's in Las Vegas, there aren't a lot of people who make the trip," Eddy said. "But with it in Reno, we'll get a lot of support from Northern Nevada and be able to cheer our girls on."

Eddy said the turnout at the Douglas County pageant was impressive.

"There were a lot of people there," she said. "I was impressed with the turnout."
