A convicted bank robber and an accused murderer will appear before Judge Michael Gibbons this morning during Douglas County District Court Law & Motion calendar.

Steven J. Simmons, convicted by a jury of robbing the Minden Bank of America will appear in court this morning on his continued sentencing. Also in court this morning is Romero Galicia, who is accused of lying in wait in the closet of a Stateline casino for his ex-girlfriend, who worked there as a housekeeper and bludgeoning her to death with a hammer. Galicia is expected to plead guilty today.

High winds are expected this morning as a low pressure system hits the coast of California. By midday, the winds should be up all over western Nevada. A high wind advisory begins 10 a.m. today and will last until 8 p.m. Gusts up to 60 mph are expected with gusts of up to 60 mph in wind prone areas, such as Washoe Valley, where campers and trailers are not advised. Anyone traveling over Highway 50 near Silver Springs should watch out for blinding dust storms.

According to the Weather Service, the chance for precipitation today will increase to 70 percent starting at about 4 p.m. today with the greatest chance for moisture lasting until about 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. Radar shows rain bands arriving in Northern California now.
