The news to you on time, with your help

We are coming into a very active time of the year in the Antelope Valley, so it is really important to let people know what will be or has been happening here. If I am contacted about an event before noon on the Sunday before a Wednesday column, I will be able to get the word out in that week's column and encourage folks to participate and enjoy the activities. I will really appreciate your help.

Senior center trip is Thursday

The Walker Senior Center has scheduled a bus trip for Thursday, March 29 to Daffodil Hill to see the beautiful flowers; we'll sure hope the weather cooperates for the trip. If you would like to join them, call the senior center at (530) 495-2323. The group is planning to meet at the center at 9 a.m. The cost is $5 for the trip, and you will need to either bring your own lunch or plan to buy lunch at Daffodil Hill.

Pasture golf tournament

This annual Antelope Valley Lions Club fundraiser will be held April 7 at the Baldo Giorgi "cow pasture" Country Club on Topaz Lane. All proceeds will go to the Jackie Giorgi Scholarship Fund at Coleville High School. If you aren't a golfer or missed reserving a starting time, you can still go have a delicious barbecue lunch and visit with everyone for only $12.

Easter egg hunt

The Walker Community Park will be full of excited kids having fun on Easter Sunday, April 8. The Antelope Valley Lions Club is finishing their busy weekend by holding this event. The hunt will be divided by age groups, so all the kids will have a good chance to find the prize eggs. Starting time for the hunt is 1 p.m., so be early enough to get them signed up.

8th grade volleyball

The Lady Wolverines volleyball team played very well in the Sagebrush League tournament on March 10. They started the tournament final tied for third place with Bridgeport, but played their way through to win the tournament by beating second-place Virginia City and first-place Smith Valley. That was a victory they can be very proud of.

This and that

-- An early reminder for all you athletic types: The Mountain Warfare Challenge 10k race will be held at the Mountain Warfare Training Center on May 19. The deadline for registration is either May 7 by mail or May 16 online. This is quite an athletic event, with the race starting at 6,800 feet and the course rising to 7,800 feet before dropping back down to the finish line. -- In a column last November, I mentioned a visit that my neighbor, Alice, and I had made to the Fall Over Goat Farm on Topaz Lane. We both absolutely fell in love with the goats and wished we could bring a couple of them home. At that time, Pam Weeks, the owner of the farm, said that she was in the process of breeding several of them and that the babies would be born in the spring. Well, she's got a bunch of darling kids, with more on the way. This week, Alice and I are going back to see them and get some pictures. More next week.
