Utah Jazz rookie coming to Douglas High

Several summers ago, campers at the Douglas Tiger Basketball Clinic got a one-day session with future NBA star and current University of Nevada All-American Nick Fazekas in the Douglas High School gym.

This summer, a current NBA star will grace the floor at Douglas and this time it will be for four full days of instruction.

Utah Jazz rookie Paul Millsap, who Wolf Pack fans became familiar with when he terrorized the boards as a forward at Louisiana Tech while leading the country in rebounding three consecutive years, will be the headline instructor at Paul Millsap's Go Hard Basketball Academy presented by High Intensity Hoops.

The NBA Rookie of the Year candidate is averaging 6.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and one block per game this year and played on the NBA All-Rookie All-Star team during the recent midseason break in Las Vegas.

He scored 22 points and had eight rebounds in 27 minutes played during the Rookie vs. Sophomore game.

The camp will be put on by former Douglas coach Aubrey McCreary, who conducts High Intensity clinics around the country, and the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department.

"I got a call from Aubrey saying he wanted to do a camp during the summer," recreation coordinator J.P. Albert said. "He said he wanted to bring some guys in, some coaches and players.

"He mentioned (current Jazz player) Derek Fisher and Paul Millsap and Paul ended up committing to it. He may bring some guys with him, you never know."

The camp will run from July 30 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Douglas High and is open to athletes in third- through 10th-grade.

Cost is $210 per player with a $20 discount for each additional family member or for players who participated in the Douglas Tiger Camp.

There will be limited enrollment in the camp.
