A man accused of killing his former girlfriend with a hammer after lying in wait for her in the closet of a Stateline hotel room is expected to plead guilty to murder at a March 26 District Court hearing in Minden.
Ramiro Vazquez Galicia, 36, faces life in prison without parole, life in prison with the possibility of parole or at least 50 years behind bars should he receive the maximum penalty on one charge of murder while violating a restraining order.
Charges of kidnapping and conspiracy will be dropped, as well as consideration of the death penalty, according to attorneys.
Tod Young, Vazquez Galicia's attorney, said he would withhold comment until his client entered the plea.
On Tuesday, Young voiced his client's intentions before Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Richard Glasson. Vazquez Galicia uttered a few yesses and noes through an interpreter to Glasson's questions.
Vazquez Galicia has been in jail since Nov. 19, when he allegedly killed 22-year-old Jazmin Gonzalez-Morgado, a housekeeper at the Horizon Hotel and Casino. Gonzalez-Morgado had obtained a restraining order against Vazquez Galicia two months prior to her death.
The man who rented the hotel room for Vazquez Galicia is facing a misdemeanor charge in the case. Evan Garcia will appear in court April 27 for a preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to violate a restraining order.
