The Young At Heart senior citizens' club is sponsoring a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Douglas County Senior Center, on June 16. This center was opened in 1977. Douglas County Nevada TRIAD will be a co-sponsor of the event.
The festivities will start at 9 a.m. with a walk-a-thon from the senior center on Meadow Lane in Gardnerville to the Minden Pavilion and back. All participants will be requested to enlist sponsors to contribute to the senior center building fund. This will be followed by games and activities at the senior center.
At noon, there will be a free barbecue on the senior center grounds. The individuals and organizations involved in the construction of the senior center will then be recognized and honored, aided by a local celebrity. Raffle prizes will be provided by local businesses. "Don and Nadine" will provide music during the day, as well as at a dance from 7-10 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The cost for the dance is $5 per person. There will be a 50/50 drawing during the dance.
